VAA members are independently owned retail businesses in the automotive industry, including tire stores, repair facilities, service stations (with bays), muffler and exhaust shops, and collision centers. Most of our members' locations are family-owned businesses, and the automotive business they run is all they do. The VAA is here to help our members in many ways. If you haven't yet joined us, consider taking us for a "test drive" and join today!
Our programs can save you money, and our convention is outstanding. All in one weekend, you will get education to improve your business, visit with vendors at the trade show, and network with other business owners from the industry. We keep you informed and up to date on issues, and retain an HR consulting firm that members can call for free. We are involved at the Virginia General Assembly and retain a lobbyist for legislative monitoring.
What have we done lately? Here are just a few examples:
- In 2016, we completed important research with the Virginia Department of Taxation that has the potential to save you thousands of dollars if you ever face an audit. Our members have access to that information!
- 2019, we worked on legislation to get the safety inspection fee raised from $16 to $20.
- 2020, we worked to defeat all legislation to abolish the safety inspection program
- 2021, we monitored legislation introduced in the shortened 2021 session.
- 2022, we monitored legislation introduced in the longer 2022 session.
- In 2023, we monitored legislation and introduced HB 1677 for which we directly lobbied to make a change to the tax code. This effort passed and was signed into law July 1, 2023, thus ending the unfair taxation of diagnostic labor and roadside service labor.
